Description:
Our client is a Design Driven company that designs, manufactures, and sells highly durable, highly affordable vehicles for Africa’s mass market. Our vehicles create a transport platform that empowers local entrepreneurs to run profitable transportation services to end-users in their communities.
We are seeking a long-term commitment from an experienced automotive professional to support operations and engineering by identifying process improvement opportunities within the company. You will be responsible for establishing, implementing processes and policies to ensure that the company is producing and selling the highest-quality product possible. The role will require working closely the venture’s CEO, Technical, Supply Chain, Production and Commercial teams as well as various local and international vendors. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
1 Develop global Quality Assurance metrics and processes to ensure organisational product quality.
2 Manage quality assurance tools that oversee: product requirements, product development, product validations, product approval, and product release to mass production.
3 Achieve financial objectives by preparing the quality budget; scheduling expenditures; analysing variances; initiating corrective actions.
4 Manage the quality functions of inspection, calibration, quality engineering, supplier quality, process assurance, regulatory compliance and quality systems within the company.
5 Manage product quality documentation system by writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
6 Prepare product and process quality reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends.
7 Work cross functionally with many different teams to resolve quality escalations.
8 Work closely with contract manufacturing partners to understand quality related issues and issues related to material.
9 Provide sound policy interpretation and guidance to assure consistent and effective application of corporate quality policy and practice by maintaining open communications between quality and all other departments.
10 Guide the quality team to perform root-cause analysis and other problem solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements.
11 Provide leadership and direction for all members of the Quality Team and coordinates the teams efforts with other support areas.

Qualifications
An ideal candidate should combine outstanding technical skills in quality and operations management with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team. They should possess a strong skill set in leading multi-function teams, defining operations strategy and identifying continuous improvement opportunities along with experience in managing global suppliers, production line configurations and new product introductions - preferably within the automotive industry.
Required
 Masters or Bachelor degree (minimum) in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering, or business administration, Economics or similar
 7+ years related experience in mechanical engineering, production line operations – preferably with a major automotive company
 Exceptional leadership and clear sense of direction
 Extreme patience and a good sense of humour
 Excellent oral, written communication skills and build strong rapport with others
 Excellent creative questioning approach
 Excellent knowledge of strategy and operational planning
 Excellent business acumen, organisational and strategic agility
 Exceptional integrity and a strong sense of ethics
 Proficient in quality analysis tools such as PFMEA, APQP, MSA and Six Sigma
 Broad knowledge of global automotive market and associated industries, with experience in manufacturing organisations
 Ability to take ownership and accountability of project timeline and results
 Excellent problem solving ability in cross-functional and multi-cultural environment; able to define problems, collect relevant data, extract meaning from data, and draw valid conclusions
 Exceptional analytical skills with regards to logistics analysis, data manipulation, and the ability to create information from data; including analysis of product costs, lead-time, project and production scheduling
 Strong technical writing ability; able to read and interpret mechanical drawings
 Proficiency in Excel, Project, Power Point, Word, Access, Visio
 High sense of drive and urgency in achieving our vision
 Ability to adapt to a dynamic working environment and work within a diverse team

 Comfort with spending 10-30% of time travelling internationally, possibly on short notice
