Job Description - Head – Materials & Supply Chain
Direct Reportees : Section Head –DBO(Direct Bought Out), Section Head – Unit/Factory Purchase,
Section Head – Imports & Logistics
Job Purpose: To plan and manage supply chain activities from procurement to shipping to achieve
company’s business targets in a timely and cost-effective manner
Principle Responsibilities:
1. Ensuring smooth functioning of the following supply chain activities:
• Communicate turbine and DBO cost based on price movements to marketing on
quarterly and annual basis
• Plan and procure raw material and factory bought-out items for turbine production
based on Production Programme
• Plan, procure and dispatch of direct bought-out items as per Projects department’s
site closure A-budget
• Managing procurement cost within budget limits
• Procurement support for spares and refurbishing jobs
• Procurement of capital goods
• Providing logistic support for domestic and export projects
2. Developing and evaluating new and existing suppliers to ensure a robust supplier base
3. Achieve cost targets through
• Negotiation with supply chain partners
• Alternate sourcing
• Cost saving activities/projects
• Import substitution products
• Annual Rate Contracts
4. Managing inventory by monitoring the stocking policy and procurement actions to ensure
delivery commitment
5. Participating in regular reviews with:
• Projects for DBO supplies
• Spares and Refurbishing for supplies and shipping
• Manufacturing and Projects for turbine production
• Internal customers (Manufacturing, CCC, Projects) for resolution of complaints
6. Providing adequate support for post-delivery issues related to supply parts
7. Reviewing purchase policies, processes, procedures and making appropriate revisions for
improvement
8. Establishing key performance metrics and benchmarks relating to supply chain for best
practices
9. Developing and training subordinates to enable them to take up higher

Direct Bought Out: - For steam based power plants upto 60 MW Alternators, Condensers,
Cooling towers, ejectors, control panels, pipes, structural steel, pumps, motors, etc..
Factory Bought outs: Castings, forgings, lube oil systems, coolers, gearboxes, hardware,
governors, vibration control systems, miscellaneous mechanical and electrical components,
subcontract components, etc..

Uncontrollable
• Commodity price escalation, resulting in most raw material cost increases
• Limited sources for very critical equipment resulting in monopoly suppliers

• Managing timely supplies in spite of frequent changes in delivery schedules from Projects /
clients

Decisions related to:
• Supplier selection/development
• Cost management
• Purchase Price finalization
• Supplier delivery priority / deviation
• Inventory management
DIMENSIONS
• DBO contributes to over 44% of the turbine business turnover
• Managing raw materials (which constitutes about 55% of the turbine cost) in the dynamic
market scenario
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• B. E (Mechanical)
• B. E (Mechanical) with a professional specialization in materials management (Preferred)
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
• 20+ years in relevant field
Additional requirement:
• To target companies like EPC, Capital equipment (like Thermax, Forbes Marshall and
equivalent companies).
• Candidate should be holding the position of at least DGM and handling a team of 20 – 25
members.
• Should be holding this position for at least 5 - 8 years or handling similar responsibilities.
• Handling Purchases close to ₹ 600 Cr.
• Working in Bangalore and surroundings or from Southern India like Hosur, Belgaum, Bidar
or from Karnataka leading towards western part.
• Willing to move to Bangalore.

40 TO 45 Years
COMPENSATION
₹ 25 to 28 Lacs Per Annum
